Tonya Wilson
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Dr. Tonya Wilson, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, CPN is an ANCC Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Florida, her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Western Governors University, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Daytona State College. Upon completing her nursing degree, Dr. Wilson worked on cardiac stepdown before transitioning to inpatient pediatrics in 2013, where she spent the bulk of her nursing career. She has worked on the pediatric medical/surgical unit, neonatal intensive care, and pediatric intensive care units. She has also worked in nursing education and as a clinical adjunct for Daytona State College and Florida State University. What truly inspired her journey into psychiatric nursing was the time she spent as a home visiting nurse for substance-exposed newborns and their families. There, she became acutely aware of the importance of the family unit in meeting mental health needs and preventing substance use disorders.
Dr. Wilson is passionate about the interdependence of physical, emotional, and mental health. She partners with children and their families to improve functioning across these domains. She takes a balanced approach to treatment, incorporating lifestyle interventions, parent coaching, psychotherapy, and pharmacologic interventions when indicated.
Outside of work, Dr. Wilson enjoys cultivating a mindfulness practice, practicing yoga, and exploring new outdoor spaces with her husband and two rescue pups.
